December 5th 1933: Prohibition ends
On this day in 1933, Prohibition officially ended in the United States upon the ratification of the 21st Amendment to the Constitution. Utah was the final state to ratify the amendment, and this gave the measure the required 75% of state approval. The 21st Amendment repealed the 18th Amendment of 1920 which had imposed Prohibition, which banned alcohol in the United States. This is the only time in US history when one amendment overturned another.
Here’s to the end of Prohibition. *clinks glass*
I’ll drink to that!
Very confused by the NRA logo in the upper-left-hand corner.

Draft of FDR’s “Day of Infamy” Speech. December 7, 1941.
A few hours after learning of the attacks on Pearl Harbor, President Franklin D. Roosevelt dictated a short address to be delivered to a Joint Session of Congress the following day.
His handwritten revisions—visible in this December 7 draft of the speech—made the “Day of Infamy” speech one of the most memorable in American history.
Read more about the drafting of this significant speech.

We ran an incredibly photo essay about Pearl Harbor last year. Check it out.

On the Lam with John McAfee
Despite a press release saying he’d been arrested at the Mexican border, we can confirm that John McAfee is still on the run, and that some of our colleagues from VICE are currently with him. For their own safety, we can’t say where exactly they are, but we can say that they are filming a video that’s set to publish sometime in the next 24 hours. Check back here for the video, we’ll let you know when it’s live.

zuky:
Fats Domino.
This man was recording rock ‘n’ roll music — i.e. blues rhythm, chord structure, and melody, driven by a strong backbeat — in the 1940s. Almost a decade before Elvis recorded his first number one hit, “Heartbreak Hotel.”
And those PANTS.
